Shave for a cure event was a hair raising success

Mary Gorgievski, Maria Sevastis & Serge Niazi with Craig Haase from Telstra Country Wide
Before: Simon Wrench and Sandra Cesare from Tomax Security
And After

The recent World's Greatest shave for a cure event held at 99 Kenny St and sponsored by Tomax Security and IT&T was an absolute success and raised $5000 for this worthy cause.

It was a fun-filled event with many locals in attendance as well as some high profile personalities such as Telstra Countrywide's Area General Manager Pat Nolan who said, "Telstra Countrywide is very proud to be associated with this event as it is a very worthwhile cause and it's so great to see so many people willing to part with their hair to raise the much needed funds for the Leukaemia foundation."

Players from the Wollongong Wolves team were also there to sign autographs and support the 15 brave people who decided to shave their heads for the cause. The team mascot also kept all the children entertained with his antics during this fun event.

Tony and John from Tomax Security wanted to offer their thanks for all the businesses who came along in support of the event such as Essential Personnel, Telstra Country wide, LJ Hooker, Unitech and TechnoProm.

Tony Cesare actually shaved his hair on the day but the surprise entrant on the day was his wife Sandra who took the plunge and parted with her locks. A stunned Sandra summed it all up with "It feels so much lighter but I am really happy with my decision and the fact that it will help so many people makes it so worthwhile." She said.

IT&T launches its new Training program

IT&T is about to launch an exciting new training program targeted at its customers.

The program is the brainchild of IT&T's Managing Director Serge Niazi who said "I have been wanting to get this training program off the ground for a while now as many of our customers often have questions ranging from computers to phone systems and software. I thought it would be best if we could cover the majority of these questions in a range of face to face sessions and provide handouts that customers can take away and refer to as required."

"We are very keen to develop a program that is both relevant and informative for our clients and would very much like your feedback on what areas you would like us to cover. We would also like to extend an invitation to these sessions to anyone else who is interested in coming along," said Maria Sevastis, IT&T's Marketing Manager.

The sessions will be approximately 1 hour to 90 minutes long and will take place once a month. The sessions will be charged at $15 each which will include all handouts and light refreshments.

If you are interested in attending or would like to give us your feedback on the type of content you would like us to include please click on the following link and register your interest. Numbers will be limited so please submit your interest as soon as possible. The first ten people to register will receive a free prize.

Testimonials

Dapto Medical Centre

"We recently decided to upgrade our existing telephone system with some extra lines which enabled our business to process an increased number of incoming calls."

"We also added an extra feature that lets our patients know that their calls to us are important and that they will be answered shortly. This feature is beneficial to both our business as well as to the patient as it provides a professional answering medium for our customers when they call and also reduces the amount of missed calls we receive."

"Even when we encountered problems with our telecommunications provider the staff at IT&T stepped in to assist us above and beyond what was expected of them. Their knowledge of the industry was invaluable to us at that very crucial time."

"IT&T also provide excellent after sales support and continued contact with us to ensure that our system is always working as it should. We have no hesitation in recommending IT&T to other businesses that rely on professional support and advice from their service provider."

Helpful Hints

How Many Points Is Your Font?

We've all used various computer applications with various fonts to make our document looks more presentable. Some sections are typed in certain fonts with various point sizes to emphasise its importance. But what is the real meaning of point size, such as 10 point, 12 points, etc? Point sizes refers to the maximum height of letters (generally in capitals), with one point equals to one 72th of an inch.

The First Computer to Predict an Election Result

The UNIVAC

In 1952, UNIVAC (Universal Automatic Computer) successfully predicted the outcome of US Presidential election during the televised debate at CBS. The UNIVAC predicted that Eisenhower would win, against conventional pundits whom overwhelmingly thought Adlai E. Stevenson would win and that the "computer made an error". So, CBS withheld its predictions from the air, but as the night went on, they announced that the UNIVAC was right and Eisenhower had won.

The UNIVAC was considered to be the most powerful computer at the time and measured over 150m in length, 75m wide and weigh over 7,000kg. It had an internal storage of around 12KB with power consumption of 12,000 Watts. The machine cost US$750,000 (in today's value it equates to just under US$6Million), accompanied with printer worth US$185,000 (over US$1.4Million today).
